VT 12.5 - "Egg Head" in fast city traffic In the beginning of the 1950s after the reconstruction of the biggest damages resulting from the war, the still young Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) dared to connect with the tradition of the fast traffic from the 1930s. For the unelectrified Northern part of Germany the decision fell on multi unit railcars: the series VT 08 for the long distance, and the VT 12.5 for the fast city traffic. Both Diesel hydraulic multi-unit railcar series had the typical "egg head" form which got an elegant touch with the black and red livery scheme and the white decorative strips. The VT 12.5 differed from the VT 08 by additional centered doors and a modified heating system. The three part unit which consisted either of two railcars with center coach or of one railcar, one center coach and one control cab, reached a length of 77,810 mm and the 12 cylinder Diesel motor accelerated the train up to a maximum speed of 140 km/h. Many years the series VT 12.5 was stationed in Hamburg Altona from which destinations in all directions, even as far as Kobenhavn were reached. 1968 the BR 612 was renamed to comply with the computer registration and until 1985 the meanwhile classic trains were indispensable in the day to day operation of the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB). 612 506/507 and the two center coaches 912 501 and 507 were taken over 1988 from the DB-hobby railway group in Stuttgart and prepared for museum showing. A small horse emblem that resembled the heraldic animal of Stuttgart was affixed on the vehicle and the train was christened "Stuttgarter Rössle". In 2006 the railcar was taken over by the DB ZugBus Regionalverkehr Alb-Bodensee GmbH (RAB), a daughter of the Deutsche Bahn AG, were it is still used for nostalgia trips.

Overall length: 1855mm. With 2x sound decoders and 2x motors. It can be run as 2 separate trains !
